Yesterday evening Ami and I went to Renton during peak traffic time to Donnie and Julie’s house. Since Donny has been my friend for 30 plus years and my record label partner I was there to help him get into the current age by getting their wireless network running properly and also setting him up to get email and post to the Rockin’ Stan Website. This could be a dangerous thing but it will probably prove to be more interesting than anything else.
The driving sucked even using the commuter lane and I was glad that I don’t have to make that sort of commute every day. After the computing we were going to go out to dinner. It turns out there was a surprise in store for me. Donnie had got together the three bands and had made a reservation for a table at Stellar in Georgetown. Stellar has been the Rockin’ Stan office of sorts as we used to have “meetings” there to discuss record label goings on.
And as it happens yesterday was the day that Rockin’ Stan Records was born. Three years ago we assembled three bands from White Center to record the Rat City Invasion compilation. Three bands, two songs each in one long 13 hour day. Our good friend Bill did a solid job under the circumstances and Steve was gracious to let us use his home where he and Bill’s band Hippie Speedball record and rehearse. Rockin’ Stan Records was a go.
Three years and three records released seems like a long time. Maybe someday this thing will pay for itself and then again maybe it won’t. The main thing is that we are having fun and participating in something that for as long as I can remember Donnie and I have both loved.
I want to thank everyone that has been involved with Rockin’ Stan Records directly and indirectly. All the bands, venues, and people that have come out to the shows and bought the records and the songs online. It’s been great. A special thanks to The Blue Ribbon Boys, Rat City Ruckus, The Snot Rockettes, and Neon Nights for believing in us.
Here’s to the last three years and to the future. Hopefully we can still do this for a long time.
